Malaysia Airports rebrands its hotels as “Sama-Sama”

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is consolidating its air-side and land-side hotels at the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang under a new brand name, "Sama-Sama".

The rebranding exercise is part of MAHB’s plan to position its airport hotel services as a specialised product brand and expand the offerings to the overseas airport market. It is also in line with its focus to grow its commercial business as outlined in our five-year business direction (2010-2014).

"We feels the time is right to set a new direction for the future growth of its hotel business,” said the company.

All its three hotels at KLIA -  the land side Pan Pacific KLIA (pictured left), the KLIA Air-side Transit Hotel and the KLIA2 Air-side Transit Hotel that will be ready at the same time as klia2 Terminal in May next year  - will assume the Sama-Sama brand name.

The new hotel brand will be ready for operational launch by January 1,  2013, starting with Pan Pacific KLIA.

“'Sama-Sama', which means “togetherness” and “you’re welcome” in Malay, will see the airport hotels offer an environment in which differences reside together – be they cultural, lingual or ethnic, similar to that in Malaysia. It is intended as a place that connects all who pass through its doors to a multifaceted experience,” said MAHB

Meanwhile, the company is upgrading its existing hotel facilities in the effort to provide the best possible service and experience to its hotel guests.

With this new brand identity, MAHB's subsidiary KL Airport Hotel Sdn Bhd (KLAH) and Pan Pacific Hotels Group have mutually agreed not to extend the management agreement for the land side hotel beyond December 31, 2012.

MAHB's management also gave assurance that all staff of Pan Pacific KLIA will see no change in their employment status as a result of this transition, as all staff remain legal employees of KLAH.

Amadeus’ Featured Results makes travel search simpler, more relevant

Amadeus' new solution, Amadeus Featured Results, is described as “an industry first search solution that revolutionises the way flight options are presented to travellers, It instantly delivers the four most relevant bookable travel options available - fastest, cheapest, most popular and sponsored, said the company.

The company previewed this patent-pending new platform at the PhoCusWright Travel Innovation Summit in Arizona, US (November 13-15).

According to Amadeus, the solution significantly improves leisure travellers ́ online purchasing experience by making travel search simpler and more relevant. It combines both sophisticated flight search technology and travel business intelligence data to deliver to the traveller a more relevant set of search results at the top of the display screen.

Featured Results leverages Amadeus ́Massive Computation Platform, which allows the computation of huge amounts of data into live caches that secure instant search capabilities, whilst securing data accuracy. It processes, stores and serves in a neutral manner the data for Featured Results web services.

Additionally, the platform’s algorithm blends both price and business intelligence data to showcase the flight options most-often booked from people who searched city pairs for the same date, or, at the request of the travel agent, promotes a specific offer that is popular or relevant to the specific search. It also integrates live registration data to flag search results with relevance signals ́ such as popularity of a given route, number of active reservations on a specific flight or remaining seats, when the price was last booked.

Vayama, a leading online travel agency uniquely focused on international travel, is the first pilot customer to implement the solution in beta form on its website, including 100 origin and destination combinations.

Holger Taubmann, Amadeus’ SVP distribution (pictured above left), said the company’s vision was to place the traveller in the driver’s seat and to create the ultimate search, shop and buy experience.

Rakuten sets up online shopping mall in Malaysia, the newly launched online shopping mall in Malaysia, set up by Japanese online retailer Rakuten, expects to have 200 merchants by the end of next 


president and chief executive officer, Masaya Ueno, said most of the merchants would be local so as to better product delivery. 

"By having more merchants on board, we can be more competitive with other brands in the market, he said at the mall’s launch early this month.

Rakuten Malaysia was launched in early November with over 11,000 products from 50 plus top local retailers/merchants.

Ueno expects to secure five percent of the Malaysian online shopping market share in five years, adding that its online shopping has been successful in other countries especially in Japan where it is the country’s biggest online shopping site.

TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choices – 10 destinations on the rise

Jakarta in Indonesia (pictured left) and Mar del Plata in Argentina topped the list of winners in TripAdvisor 2012 "Travellers’ Choice Destinations on the Rise" in Asia and the world respectively.

The awards recognise destinations, which have seen the greatest increase in positive traveller feedback and traveller interest, year-over-year.

The world’s top 10 destinations on the rise were named, as well as top 10 lists for the U.S., Europe, Asia, South Pacific and South America.

"Interestingly, Jakarta has topped the list of Asian destinations, beating Osaka, Kathmandu, Chiang Mai and Phnom Penh to name a few,” said Jean Ow-Yeong, TripAdvisor's spokesperson. "These awards are great accolades for the cities as not only are they based on increasing traveller interest, but also increasing positive feedback about the cities’ hotels, restaurants and things to do."
