| MASABUMI MORI, CEO, Ikyu Corp, Japan
Masabumi Mori is the chief executive officer of Ikyu, which provides reservation services for hotel and restaurants through the internet. It provides its services through its Website under the name ikyu.com, ikyu Auction (www.eac.ne.jp), and kanpai.jp (www.kan-pai.jp). The company primarily operates in Japan. It is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and employs 34 people. According to Mr. Mori, specialization and focus are the keys to success for hotel online reservation website ikyu.com. "We specialize in luxury hotels and Japanese-style ryokan and provide detailed information for each property. Behind this specialization is the consumer psychology that no one would want to buy an Hermes product at a grocery store. With these factors in mind, we created a website that made consumers feel it was the appropriate place to book a luxury hotel or ryokan." In October 2007, it exceeded 1.5 million Ikyu members and that same month, it started online payment service by credit card. Prior to founding the company, he worked in the investment management sector at Nippon Life Insurance Company from 1986 to 1998. While working for Nippon Life Insurance, he was sent to Lehman Brothers for investment training. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Sophia University. |
