There seems to be no stopping AccorHotels, whether it is on the acquisition trail or in expanding its brands, and the latter is most obvious in Asia Pacific (APAC) where it just opened its 1,000th hotel— the 143-room Pullman Tokyo Tamachi (picture above).
The launch of the property in Japan’s capital brings the inventory of the French hotel group in APAC to over 200,000 rooms, and it aims to increase the count with the opening of one new hotel in the region every two days by 2020.
“We currently open, on average, a new hotel in Asia Pacific every three days, but our goal is to move this to a new hotel every second day by 2020 and one hotel per day globally,” said Michael Issenberg, CEO Asia-Pacific AccorHotels.
He added that for the first half of 2018, 72% of global room openings for the group were in APAC. In the past three years the region’s network has doubled in size, “thanks to a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions.”
The group’s recent purchase of Australia’s largest accommodation operator Mantra Group added a further 19,000 rooms to the region. Its portfolio now includes Raffles, Orient Express, Fairmont, Banyan Tree, Delano, Mondrian, SLS, Swissôtel and Mövenpick.
With APAC now representing over 30% of global rooms and 51% of the global pipeline, Issenberg said the region would continue its rapid expansion as the group looks to transform its business model to become a full-service operator in travel, lifestyle and digital innovation.
AccorHotels also attributed its “exceptional growth” to the region’s strong business performance, which saw robust rooms growth and revenue per available room (RevPar) up 5% (like for like) in the first half of this year.
Pullman Tokyo Tamachi is the first Pullman in Japan, and the 75th in APAC in 10 years. Pullman launched in Thailand in 2008, and has become one of the group’s most successful brands with a network of more than 125 hotels globally.
