Leading travel guide publisher Lonely Planet has acquired ArrivalGuides, a B2B distributor of content based in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The purchase price and terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

The acquisition comes just a week after the Tennessee-based company announced the appointment of Luis Cabrera as its president and CEO following the departure of previous CEO Daniel Houghton last May. He joins the travel media company from BCG Digital Ventures, a subsidiary of Boston Consulting Group, where he held a similar role.

ArrivalGuides has 625 destination guides, more than 56,000 points of interest in multiple languages and over 500 officially supplied destination videos. Its destination content library comes directly from travel experts, tourism bureaus and DMOs around the world.

Clients of the Swedish company include AAA Travel, VISA, Hilton, Eurowings, Rentalcars.com, many of which use digital products to integrate travel content to existing platforms.

Together with ArrivalGuides Cabrera is looking to expand its partnership base and redefine its strategy. “ArrivalGuides’ model and established channel will allow us to explore more aggressively and creatively our B2B strategy and partner with companies in new ways,” he elaborated.

Added Magnus Aideborn, founder and CEO of ArrivalGuides: “Along with Lonely Planet’s passion and authority we seek to enable and inform more authentic, exciting and unique travel experiences.”

Aideborn will continue to lead his team from the office in Sweden.

Lonely Planet is owned by NC2 Media, which bought the travel guide company in 2013 from UK broadcaster BBC Worldwide for £51.5 million.
