OYO Hotels and Homes has committed US$200,000 to support its partners and their families in South-east Asia affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.
Its chief executive officer for South-east Asia, Japan and the Middle East Dr Mandar Vaidya said this followed a similar move in China where OYO set up a dedicated fund of 1 million Chinese renminbi for the same purpose.
“The hospitality industry has been impacted and we are also concerned with the impact Covid-19 has on our partners as they come to grips with the current situation,” he said in a statement.
According to Vaidya, he and members of the leadership team in the region also pledged to donate a portion of their salaries for February 2020 to the fund.
“Our responsibility as #TeamOYOSEA compels us to come out in full support of everyone connected to OYO as we navigate through this difficult phase”.
The fund is also OYO’s way to return the support the company received, “which we hope will go some way to help our partners recover from the effects of Covid-19,” added Vaidya
In South-east Asia OYO is currently present in more than 300 cities with over 3,500 franchised and leased hotels across Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. Globally, it is in 800+ cities across 80 countries.
