Travel trends – Maldives, Phuket, Bali

A QUICK grab of the trends Sojern is seeing in search for Maldives, Phuket and Bali, up to July 5, 2021. (All data from Sojern)

Maldives
The Maldives is welcoming Indian tourists again and some South Asian countries from July 15.
Trends show:
• Hotel search demand in April and May is slightly higher in 2021 as compared to 2020 – a steady interest in hotel searches for Maldives for most of 2021June and July is where we see a higher search volume
June and July is where a higher search volume is seen

Phuket
Phuket Sandbox opened on July 1 for quarantine-free international tourism.
Trends show:
• Hotel search demand so far is similar to 2020.
• The highest volume of search for July reopening is domestic followed by international travellers – this is aligned to the opening on July 1.

Bali
Bali’s re-opening will be delayed. Indonesia’s government will wait until Covid-19 cases fall significantly before opening Bali to foreign tourists. Previously, the government had hoped to open Bali at the end of July/beginning of August.
Trends show:
• Hotel search demand so far is similar to 2020 and there’s a drop off in July, corresponding to the news of the delay of Bali’s reopening.
• Immediate months of search such as June and July have strong search volume from Asia Pacific and the domestic market.
