One thing you have to thank the pandemic for is the extra burst of creativity it’s given destination marketing.
From cool places like Iceland to remote spots like Faroe Islands, that united us in yearning and humour during the pandemic, we will always remember this period for its inspiration in making us dream about travel in different ways, and to rethink how we perceive destinations.
For example, this one from Switzerland – “No One Upstages the Grand Tour of Switzerland” with Roger Federer and Anne Hathaway, using humour rather than drone shots of cows and mountains.
We like this one from Singapore which has always suffered from people going, so what’s there to do in that boring place. This one directly confronts the issue – in-your-face “Think You Know Singapore”.
And the latest from the Philippines where instead of the usual scenic shots, or using celebrities, it uses Philippines’ greatest asset, its people, and what it’s best known for – its art – and turns them into landscapes in “The People Make The Destination”. Plus, it has a binaural version. Talk about inspired.
Mabuhay. If these videos don’t get us travelling again, what will?
