WiT and local partner, Tidesquare, have made the decision to reschedule its Seoul event from April to October 29.
The uncertainty over the developing Covid-19 situation in South Korea in which the government has put the country on its highest alert and the Singapore government has issued travel advisories on two Seoul cities, Daegu and Cheongdo, had made it hard to plan for the two-day event.
Said Yeoh Siew Hoon, founder, WiT, “It was a painful decision. Even though the affected city of Daegu is almost 300km from Seoul, we felt it was the best decision in the circumstances. Moving it back to Oct 29 will give us even more time to prepare the best WiT Seoul ever.
“The dynamism of APAC’s second largest outbound market (as reported in this article) remains unchanged and things are tipping. This Covid-19 crisis will accelerate the change and those who know how to seize the opportunities will have great stories to share when we return.
“We wish our travel brethren in South Korea all the best. We have lived in Orange alert in Singapore now for the past two weeks and we can assure them that life goes on as normal. The Orange alert has allowed the government to do what it has to do to control the outbreak to make it safe for residents and we are certain this is what South Korea’s officials will do as well.
“Actually, this whole thing has united us in that we are all a lot more considerate of each other and are a lot more hygienic, and has made us an even cleaner, more caring society. We are with you and we will get through this together. See you Oct 29, when we will be so ready for bibimbap and soju.”
WiT Seoul’s local partner Tidesquare is similarly disappointed but is confident of a strong return when the situation is under control.
“Because of the uncertainty of the current Covid-19 situation, we, unfortunately, have to postpone WiT Seoul although we strongly believe South Korea is still in control of the situation. We know our community must go on so the event is rescheduled for Oct 29. We will continue with our preparations and will be back even better and stronger,” said Min Yoon, CEO, Tidesquare.
