Mobile check-in at Marriott goes global

You can now check in with your smartphone at Marriott hotels in 19 countries worldwide, including five Asia Pacific markets, as the hotel group expands this feature on its Mobile Check-in app nternationally.

Touting the service as the “broadest mobile offering of its kind in the lodging industry”, the hotel group said Marriott Rewards members can use the app to check-in as early as 4pm the day before arrival. They will receive an automatic notification when the room is ready and, on arrival, go to the expedited mobile check-in desk where a key card will be waiting.

“Mobile check-in is just the start. Our guests are more mobile and global than ever before and technology is increasingly important to them, which is why we will add check-out next year,” said Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels.

The mobile check-in service was first launched at 329 hotels in the U.S. and Canada. The five APAC countries using this service are Thailand, Singapore, India, Australia and Philippines, with China next in line in early 2014.

Marriott Hotels expects to complete the full global roll out of mobile check-in at all 500 hotels, as well as offer check-out functionality in the first half of 2014.

According to research by GroupM Next*, 57% of business travellers aged 21 to 39 use their smartphone to book a hotel. They are also more likely to use mobile devices to enhance their travel experiences.

The Mobile Check-in app is available in English and Chinese.
