Singapore-based travel site, BeMyGuest, which specialises in niche travel experiences around Asia, has secured a strategic investment from South Korean online travel agency, Tidesquare, for its regional expansion.

BeMyGuest, however, did not disclose the funding amount. This investment follows a round of angel funding of SGD$500,000 for the company last October, which also saw the appointment of Blanca Menchaca as the company’s new chief marketing officer (read story here).

For Tidesquare, the third largest OTA in South Korea, the investment will see it extending its presence throughout South-east Asia. It started life three years ago as a marketing company, handling market projects for luxury hotels and luxury private clubs.

“Then, one of the largest credit card companies in Korea decided to outsource its travel service and TideSquare joined the project. We now have two business domains, (offline) premium travel service, Privia Travel, for premium card members and an online travel mall,” Tidesquare’s CEO Min Yoon (pictured right) told WIT in an earlier interview

Tidesquare now generates 15,000 to 20,000 bookings per month, 300,000 site visitors per month and, in 2012, produced more than US$120 million in ticket sales revenue.

“BeMyGuest presents a fresh travel product that is growing rapidly in popularity with travellers everywhere,” said Yoon. “We’re very happy to have the opportunity to invest in such a unique product and team that is clearly providing travellers with the unique experiences they seek today.”

Clement Wong, founder and CEO of BeMyGuest, said, “South Korea is a large inbound travel sector in South East Asia, and we see this integration of our companies as such a positive move for both region’s tourism markets, and a huge win for the travel consumer.”
