Taiwanese tours and activities platform, KKday, is going from strength to strength as it recently announced a new investment from the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund. The investment details have not been disclosed.
With this, the three-year old startup is collaborating with Alibaba to launch a flagship store under Alibaba Group’s travel portal, Fliggy. It marks KKday’s assertive step into the Chinese market, with a regional office in Shanghai.
“Fliggy is a great way for us to enter the Chinese market. Alipay’s universality will help us reach customers in China, and within Southeast Asia,” said KKday’s Chief Executive Officer Ming Chen.
Since it’s launch in 2015, KKday has currently rolled out operations in a total of 11 markets in Asia. The investment comes just five months after it closed US$10.5M in Series B funding back in February this year by Japanese travel firm H.I.S.
Having amassed a significant amount of funding from both China and Japan, KKday has made clear its ambitions of going global.
Chen states, “We think this investment shows Alibaba’s confidence in the prospect of KKday’s fast global expansion and its steady and creative business model. We’re excited to get working.”
