So I grabbed my toothbrush and toothpaste, two T-shirts, a pair of shorts and headed to the airport. It comes down to the bare necessities for a quick 24 hour trip. And literally bare for that evening as I realized I forgot my underwear!!
Doug and I have known each other for a very long time. Nearly 20 years. I was in my early 20’s when we met, and well, I was doing what one does when you’re 20. Being foolish! I’m sure we both have plenty of dirt on each other if we really decided to expose it all. But we’re a couple of decades older and maturer and some luggage is just best left unopened. Right Doug?
He put it perfectly … when you know someone for so long, it’s great to see the progression of life. When you catch up every so many years, you can take stock of your dreams, if they’ve actualized, your successes, the less happy times and ultimately realize that after so many years, we’re both still standing and you know what, doing well!
Other than in the evening, when we went for dinner to the night market in Krabi Town, we spent the whole time at this wonderfully simple hotel called Thip Residence on the outskirts of Krabi Town, which had the best value for money I’ve ever seen!
We swam, ate, sat in the restaurant outdoors and chatted and chatted.
So many years, so many dramas, so many stories. And do you remember so-and-so? What ever happened to him?
As I waited on my Tiger flight to take me back home to Singapore, I realized that sometimes all it takes is a 24 hour jump out of your routine to share an unforgettable moment with a dear friend. Traveling for me is celebrating: Life. Friendship. Moments.
Doug … we’ll always have Krabi!
