The Australian travel website, in its listing of the top 10 ten most popular travel destinations in Europe, ranked London in the number one spot followed by Paris, with Rome making the top three.

The most popular address in London for visiting Aussies in Earl’s Court (also known as “Kangaroo Valley”) are hotels in the Kensington, Knightsbridge and Earls Court area.

Perhaps more surprising said Wotif.com was four Italian cities – Rome, Venice, Florence and Milan- in the top 10 destinations booked through its site.

Wotif.com’s executive general manager Europe, Matt Harris, said it was a natural progression as Australians use London as a base to see more of Europe.

“We’ve been watching Aussies head to London since we sold our first hotel booking online in 2000. Now we’re finding that the strong Australian dollar is encouraging them to travel further into Europe after they arrive. That’s why we’re seeing Barcelona, Prague and Florence featuring alongside more traditional Australian destinations.”
