Accor Hotels has launched a “Savour, Snap, Share” social media campaign across Asia to bring together social media, food and selfies. Hotel guests and anyone interested in this contest can share “food-fies” (selfies with food) of themselves enjoying culinary delights at any Accor property around the world, and stand to win weekly prizes.
The campaign is inspired by the 2014 Accor Hotels Asia Pacific Social Media Monitor, which revealed that 77% of travellers took photos during their last trip. Respondents from Southeast Asia are the most avid selfie takers with travellers from the Philippines topping the list at 54%, followed by Indonesia (51%) and Thailand (50%), making the top three.
The findings also revealed women (82%) to be more snap happier than men (74%).
Food is the favourite subject (44%), followed by landscapes (42%), and destination landmarks (39%). Pictures of the hotel’s views (38%) and rooms (37%) were also important keepsakes.
Emilie Couton, vice president of guest experience at Accor Asia Pacific, said:. “Whether it is buying a postcard or a T-shirt, travellers have always been looking for ways to keep a record of their trips. What is interesting though is how food has now become the focus of holiday photos even more than the destination or landmarks.”
The respondents stated various reasons for posting photos of their travels on social media – 61% said it provided them with a record of what they did, 56% wanted to share beautiful visuals, 47% expected validation in the form of “Likes” or positive comments 46%.
The survey also found social media usage to be prevalent among Asia Pacific travellers. Seven in ten said they used social media during their last trip, with respondents from China (84%), Vietnam (83%) and Indonesia (82%) being the most active.
