A survey by TripAdvisor among 40 key tourist cities worldwide found Tokyo with the best taxi services and local public transport, as well as having the cleanest and safest streets.

Singapore came in second for both categories.

As for the  friendliest taxi drivers both cities scored, with Tokyo in first place and Singapore coming in third.

Other key findings:

• Zurich topped the list in ease in getting around a city, followed by Vienna and Singapore. Tokyo and Hong Kong came in seventh and ninth positions respectively.

• Cancun topped the list for having the friendliest locals. In Asia, Tokyo was second and Bangkok seventh.

• New York City was the ultimate shopping paradise taking first place. In Asia, Bangkok was the other shopping heaven as a runner up while Tokyo was fifth, Hong Kong sixth and Kuala Lumpur eighth – making up the rest of the Asian destinations in the top 10.
