The report revealed that mobile bookings for hotels from Singapore travellers more than doubled last year, with almost four out of five in 3- and 4-star hotels.

Other key findings:

  • Half of global bookings in the final quarter of 2014 were either for the same or next day, with 65% for single-night stays
  • Asia was home to the most popular destinations booked by Singapore travellers via mobile devices in 2014
  • Asia was the only region worldwide to experience a dip in average room rates last year.

The most popular international destinations booked by Singapore travellers via mobile devices in 2014 were Bangkok (*S$110), Hong Kong (*S$210), Taipei (*S$152), Kuala Lumpur (*S$132), Seoul (*S$170), Tokyo (*S$216), Bali (*S$183), Ho Chi Minh City (*S$95), Johor Bahru (*S$97) and Penang (*S$125).

Katherine Cole, regional director at Hotels.com, said Asia popular with because of its proximity, and lower hotel room rates, making it popular for short weekend getaways.

“As a result, this has led to the growth of last-minute bookings, which is a trend we predict will continue to grow with the increased reliance on mobile,” she added.
