Rome2rio, the Australia-based multi-modal search specialist, has made available on-site bookings for train journeys in the UK.

Launched in partnership with SilverRail Technologies the new feature allows Rome2rio users to search its site for available transportations between any UK locations. They then can book selected rail segments directly on the site.

Rome2rio CEO Rod Cuthbert said the company was focussing first on the UK to address the needs of its European customers, who account for more than 65% of monthly site traffic.

“With this announcement, we’re serving notice we intend to offer a complete multimodal booking capability worldwide, with the distinct advantage over rivals of a powerful search engine capability that allows users to perform the discovery phase of their travel planning on the same site as the booking itself.”

The company will roll out the new capability to other markets including Sweden, Spain, the US, and Canada in the coming months.

On-site booking in the flight, rail, bus and ferry sectors will be launched in the near future.

In a related development, Rome2rio has partnered with Distribusion for bus bookings and Travelport to test onsite flight bookings in selected markets.
