The next time you are stranded at an airport due to flight delays or cancellations you can avoid the long lines for paper hotel vouchers with Travelport Resolve, which promises to get you a room with a “few simple touches” on your mobile device.
This latest product from the travel commerce company was launched at the company’s annual Travelport LIVE event in Sydney this week.
According to Travelport, this new solution for airlines enables them to react to disruptions with speed and accuracy, as well as communicating immediately with passengers after an itinerary change.
Passengers can bypass the frustration of hotel/meal voucher lines, and instead use their mobile device to select and book hotel rooms from available local accommodation options.
Travelport Resolve was formulated from an idea developed in the Travelport Labs Accelerator programme. It transforms the current labour-intensive, manual hotel sourcing, booking, and payment process that plagues airlines during disruptive irregular operations (IROPS) situations.
The product also provides airlines with actionable insights into IROPS including hotel-related costs, room usage, passenger status and activity patterns. Its up-to-the-minute reporting tools analyse the true cost of disruptions to an airline’s business, and identify improvements an airline can make to its service.

Travelport said its “mobile expertise and its ability to source and book hotel rooms across the globe” are behind its ability to help airlines automate and monitor the entire hotel distribution process.
Derek Sharp, Travelport’s senior vice president and managing director, air commerce added Travelport Resolve helps airlines avoid “serious damage to their brand and to their relationships with affected customers,” as it helps them improve customer service performance during disruption.
The company plans to add Travelport Resolve will soon include predictive features allowing airlines to recognise potential IROPS situations including local conditions or events, which may create limited hotel availability. The solution will then automatically procure room inventory to meet passenger demand.
Travelport Resolve is currently on trial with a major US-based airline.
This new solution could prove useful to airlines in Asia Pacific as, according to FlightStats, the first half of this year saw 27.8% of major airline flights (810,389 out of 2,913,262) within the region suffered some form of travel disruption.
