Travel tech firm Sojern has appointed former chief of Buzzfeed Japan Masahiro Ueno as vice president of Asia Pacific (APAC) based in Singapore
In his new role Ueno will lead expansion in APAC including Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.

The former CEO of Buzzfeed Japan, a joint venture set up by BuzzFeed and Yahoo Japan, also held management positions in Criteo, Become, Overture and DoubleClick. While at Criteo he grew the APAC business from four employees to over 250 across six regional offices representing over 20% of the company’s global revenue.
Sojern said in a statement Ueno’s appointment “comes at a time when the APAC travel market is soaring. APAC flight departures are up 9.6% in 2018. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, APAC tourism will double in the coming decade to reach US$1.2 trillion by 2026.”
Commenting on the appointment Sojern’s chief revenue officer Stephen Taylor said Ueno “will bring his strong leadership, digital expertise, and operational discipline to further accelerate growth and build on the current momentum Sojern has in the region.”
According to Sojern, it has “in excess of 100 clients across the APAC region including the likes of Scoot and Marina Bay Sands”.
In November last year Sojern raised US$120 million Series D led by growth equity firm TCV to expand into new markets. The company, headquartered in San Francisco, is a leading provider of digital marketing solutions and real-time audiences for the travel industry.
