Content, commerce, and community are pillars of Jiha Jung’s Tripbtoz | WiT Studio

Dropping by the WiT Studio recently, Tripbtoz founder Jiha Jung shared the unique philosophy behind his travel platform, which is successfully challenging industry giants by blending content, commerce, and community. Jung emphasizes that these are not separate pillars but an interconnected ecosystem built on a strong foundation of content.

Unlike large OTAs that start with commerce or social platforms that start with community, Tripbtoz was “born to be content.” This approach allows travellers to upload their own experiences, from destinations to accommodations, and sell those experiences or connect with a community of likeminded users. This content-first strategy fuels their “Travel to Earn” (T2E) ecosystem, where users are incentivised with TripCash for sharing their travel videos and information, creating powerful user loyalty and authentic, human-generated reviews.

Jiha Jung also revealed that Tripbtoz has adopted Artificial Intelligence to scale and boost productivity. However, Jung remains clear-eyed about AI’s limits, believing that the essential component of travel – human emotion – will not be replaced. “The emotion is something that AI cannot mimic,” he states, arguing that the raw, authentic videos captured by travellers with their friends and family provide an emotional connection that polished AI-generated content cannot replicate.

Key takeaways:

  • Integrated Ecosystem: Tripbtoz’s model is not three separate pillars but a unified whole: Content provides the foundation, which simultaneously drives Community engagement and Commerce (selling accommodations/experiences).

  • AI for Productivity, Not Replacement: The company uses different LLM tools to increase internal productivity but believes AI will not replace the emotional core of user-generated travel content.

  • The “Travel to Earn” (T2E) Model: Users are instantly incentivized with TripCash (their point system) when their shared content – videos, experiences, information – results in a conversion or booking, building strong user loyalty.

  • Strategic Differentiation: Tripbtoz has an advantage over social media giants (community/content first) and major OTAs (commerce first) because they were “born to be content” and have a large, young, video-sharing user base in Korea.

  • Focus on Manpower and Culture: Global scaling is achieved by trusting local employees (90% trust rule) and fostering a company culture where employees are encouraged to be fans of the brand by using the app for their own travel.
