Sabre releases whitepaper mapping trustworthy AI in travel

Sabre Corporation has released The Secure AI Advantage, the third installment in its whitepaper series aimed at decoding how agentic AI, autonomous, decision-making artificial intelligence, will reshape the travel technology landscape. The paper zeroes in on how trust and security must be redesigned so that these systems can reliably operate at scale across the travel ecosystem.

At its core, Sabre argues that as AI shifts from “assistive” to “agentic”, meaning systems can act and decide with minimal human input, the traditional security and compliance playbook isn’t enough. Without security built into the foundations of these systems, autonomous AI could introduce risks faster than organizations can respond.

Scott Moser, Sabre’s Chief Information Security Officer, puts it succinctly, “Autonomy without trust is unusable; autonomy with trust is transformational.”

Why trust matters more now

The report covers assessments of how agentic AI changes risk dynamics:

  • Autonomy increases complexity: AI systems operating across airlines, agencies, hotels, and payments can act unpredictably, raising the stakes for security gaps.

  • Traditional models are insufficient: Legacy security that relies on static checks and periodic compliance reviews can’t keep up with autonomous behaviour that evolves in real time.

  • Identity becomes the perimeter: In an era where non-human identities (AI agents and APIs) are empowered to take actions, organizations need continuous identity verification, not just one-time authentication.

  • Governance must be measurable and transparent: It’s not enough to plan governance; you need detectable, auditable evidence of decision logic, data use, and outcomes.

Rather than stick to abstract principles, Sabre lays out how it has integrated security and trust into its own AI-enabled stack from raw data to real-world actions. This acts as real-time oversight, monitoring agent behaviour, enforcing guardrails, enabling human oversight where needed, and ensuring every action is traceable back to its origin.

Sabre outlines a few key takeaways in the report:

  • Privacy and data protection must be baked in, not bolted on.

  • Identity should be continuous and verifiable.

  • Real-time observability matters more than periodic checks.

  • Governance must be transparent and provable.

Sabre says The Secure AI Advantage is a framework for how travel technology providers should think about AI trust and security as autonomous capabilities become business-critical. The company adds that it’s especially relevant given broader industry trends showing extremely high AI adoption among travel buyers, even as implementation challenges persist.
