CEO of the Singapore-based travel search engine, Martin Symes (left), hinted that he was finalizing another round of funding and working on something else while Hari Nair, CEO of HolidayIQ, the Indian travel content and community site, pulled out of the conference at the last minute, saying, “Something very urgent has come up that requires me to be present in Bangalore during the whole of the next week.”
That “something” turned out to be a merger between the two companies.
Symes is not saying anything beyond the fact there will be “a full integration at the equity and management level and the combined entity is headquartered in Singapore”.
The combined entity has also completed a Series B funding round led by Tiger Global, the New York-based growth capital fund.
HolidayIQ, which claims to be India’s answer to TripAdvisor, had announced its plans to expand into South-east Asia earlier this year, using Singapore as a base, and Nair had told WIT it was seeking funding and partners to expand its travel review model beyond India.
It is also understood that Wego is looking for a chief operating officer.
More to come ….
