Competition to encourage development of visual arts

The ATA is a three-month art initiative aimed at encouraging the greater development of visual arts among the more than 400,000 students and youths in all Singapore schools, who stand to win prizes to 12 destinations.

From now to October 21 students can create their artwork using any medium such as paint, charcoal or crayons, based on the theme “Countries, Cultures & Festivals”. They then upload a picture of their work to the ATA website, a virtual gallery visible worldwide.

Participants, whose artwork is selected, win travel prizes to destinations like Helsinki, Istanbul, Delhi, Kaoshiung, Vientiane, Bandar Seri Begawan, Iloilo in the Philippines, Hanoi and Changsha in China.

Artworks, which garner the most popular votes in the four categories – Lower and Upper Primary, Lower and Upper Secondary –  win prizes such as iPad Minis and iPad Mini docking stations from Changi Airport Group and SATS.

Lim Ching Kiat, senior vice president, market development of Changi Airport group, said, “Changi Airport and its partner airlines Cebu Pacific Air, China Airlines, Finnair, Jet Airways, Lao Airlines, Royal Brunei Airlines, SilkAir, Turkish Airlines and Vietnam Airlines, destination content partner Trip Advisor as well as SATS Group, have come together in this initiative to encourage interest in the visual arts among all students and youths in Singapore.

“At the same time, an art competition is also an innovative way to stimulate interest in some of the destinations the participating airlines are connected to from Singapore.”

The Singapore Changi Airport – Achieve thru Art competition is open to any Singapore resident aged 7-17 in these four categories – Lower and Upper Primary (7-12 years), Lower and Upper Secondary (13-17 years). To participate they have to register for an account onATA’s website.
