TripAdvisor last week announced it has bought Bokun, an Iceland-based provider of business management technology for the tours, attractions and experiences industry.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

With this acquisition, TripAdvisor expands its offerings by providing suppliers with technical solutions.

“We’re committed to taking the experiences sector far beyond its current online penetration of just 20%, and Bokun will play a critical role in this mission,” said Dermot Halpin, TripAdvisor president Experiences and Rentals (pictured right), in a statement.

He added that this signals a new phase for the company, which aims to eliminate fragmentation, simplify distribution for suppliers and improve the shopping experience for travellers.

Founded in 2012, Bokun has a global customer base comprising local suppliers and Fortune 500 companies. It remains based in Reykjavik, Iceland with plans to expand the team.
