The Court of Appeal of Singapore, on 10 February, dismissed with costs an appeal by British event organiser Anthony Hollingsworth (Hollingsworth) against an earlier High Court order on, inter alia, a sum of over S$6 million (US$4.7 million) to be returned to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).This ruling brings an end to a five-year legal tussle over the Listen Project.
Hollingsworth, together with his companies Children’s Media Limited (CML) and Tribute Third Millenium Limited (Tribute) were the organisers of Listen Live, a mega fund-raising event. It was originally scheduled to be staged in Singapore on 30 September and 1 October 2005.
STB was the main sponsor for Listen Live and paid funds towards its staging. However, the organisers failed to deliver the event. STB commenced legal proceedings against Hollingsworth in March 2006..
On 27 May 2008 the High Court of Singapore ruled that Hollingsworth, CML and Tribute were liable for all of STB’s damages arising from the Listen Live dispute.
The defendants subsequently submitted a series of appeals, before Hollingsworth appealed before the Court of Appeal on 10 February 2011.
With the dismissal of this final appeal the original High Court order is now final, binding and conclusive on the defendants.
