eRevMax in talks for two more acquisitions, expands in Asia

eRevMax International, which recently made two acquisitions – Lunar Logic Polska and SimpleDistribution – is in talks for two further acquisitions even as it expands in Asia, CEO Sascha Hausmann told WIT.

“One is services related and is in contract stage and another one is product related and we are just starting due diligence. The services one is a smaller transaction, the product related is a several million transaction.

“I cannot disclose more on either right now. We are also looking into other strategic product opportunities where we have not decided yet whether those will be acquisitions or partnerships and joint ventures. With the hiring of a COO, myself and the board now have more time to focus on strategic / mid to long term initiatives.”

In Asia, it will be opening an office in China this year and is currently discussing several larger opportunities with Asian travel companies, he said.

“In general our Singapore office is growing nicely, although still very small compared to our overall business. This will hopefully change towards the second half of the year when we have completed our learning phase and will start to invest more, similar to what we are doing in Europe and the US.”

Said Hausmann, “There has been a lot of focus on Asia in the past two years. OTAs are trying to rapidly expand and obtain market share by either their own product or by acquisition.

“Given that the big travel companies need to make sure they don’t miss the boat in Asia, I would expect more activity within 2011. In general the mergers and acquisitions market has picked up tremendously and will create interesting opportunities.

“For hotels this means that they will be faced with a changing travel market. Online transactions will most likely increase exponentially and at a much larger pace than they have in the US or in Europe. That brings plenty of opportunity but also additional hassle.

“Online does not always mean margins are better, something that hotels will need to learn quickly in order to manage and cope. Although online growth is generally welcomed, Europe and the US had more time to get accustomed to it. Asia will need to heavily invest into exploring those expanding markets.

“There is another phenomena that comes out of aggressive development in Asia, outbound tourism. It’s hard to predict the consequences but given populations are much larger than in Europe and the US, this will create interesting opportunities and challenges.”

Asked what missing pieces of the puzzle he was looking to fit into the eRevMax bundle, which includes channel management technologies RateTiger and SimpleDistribution and now, Lunar Logic Polska, a web and digital development services company, Hausmann said, “Hotel product RTSuite – we are going to focus on the service angle more going forward.

“We believe that we now have robust technology and will continue to invest into that area but also need to help hoteliers with additional distribution, price setting, contract management, reputation management and social media.

“Those terms are widely used but the average hotelier has no time to focus on the trends. We will try to do that for them.”

On its Corporate product RTCorp, he said it was going through a revamp of its rate shopping management tool for OTA, airlines, car rental companies, hotel companies and travel managers / travel management firms.

“Here we are providing enhanced reporting, more details and easier monitoring.

“XML technology RTConnect – on our XML gateway front we continue to connect PMS / CRS / RMS. We have quite a long list now and want to be connected to any meaningful but also small players within 2011/2012.”
