Local heroes to star with global experts at first WIT Indonesia

A movie director, travel blogger and leading photographer will share the stage with online travel experts at the first WIT Indonesia which will combine the best of local and global to get to the heart of the Indonesian online travel story.

IndovideoWith the country’s nascent online travel market evolving with its own unique set of characteristics, the one-day conference, themed “Hot. Hebat. Heboh”, will blend global perspectives with local, on-ground experience to create thought-provoking content and actionable ideas.

“We’ve crafted the programme bearing in mind the local characteristics of the market – very heavy into social media and visual content, and big on smartphones – and an ecommerce infrastructure that is unique to Indonesia,” said Yeoh Siew Hoon, editor and founder, Web In Travel.

“At the same time, we want to blend that with global experts who can share the bigger trends that are shaping online travel and fit those into the Indonesian story.”

Indonesia is projected to have 100 million Internet users by 2015 and social networks and mobile applications are developing distinctly in a market where consumers are obsessed with networking and their devices. It is estimated there are now 61 million internet users in Indonesia – with mobile connectivity making up a significant portion of traffic. Approximately 58 million users (95%) regularly go online from notebooks, netbooks, tablets, or cellular devices.

Within Indonesia, speakers include Brata Rafly, chief commercial officer, Mandala Airlines; Eric Tjetjep, CEO, Eztravel.co.id; Graham Hills, managing director, Wego, Indonesia; Henky Prihatna, Head of Travel, Google, Indonesia; Yusuf IJsseldijk, Managing Director & CEO, Go Indonesia; and Gaery Undarsa, co-founder and managing director, Tiket.com.

WIT Indonesia will also feature the WIT Start-Up Pitch in which entrepreneurs will be coached by mentors and investors for a final presentation at the conference.

WIT Indonesia is co-organised with Kibar Kreasi, an Indonesian digital specialist that organises events such as GeekFest, Women Wired Weekend, the Alphaterra Digital Marketing Conference.

It will be held March 27 at the Pullman Central Park, with Accor Asia as a Foundation Partner.
