“This year, Web in Travel’s theme is The C-Spot. We are putting the focus squarely on the consumer and this video contest is in line with the theme. Through this competition, we hope to help the industry rediscover the real reasons why people travel, and what is it about travel that people love,” said Yeoh Siew Hoon, producer and editor of WIT, “and, really, their role is to facilitate that.
“As for the consumers, we hope that they will have fun participating in this contest and rediscover the love of travel and the spirit of adventure that moves travellers to places,” she added.
The contest, open to all countries, will feature attractive travel prizes ranging from air tickets on AirAsia X, a Penthouse Experience at the Fairmont Singapore, stays at exotic resorts and adventure experiences in Asia.
The top videos will be selected by both viewers and a panel of judges which includes India’s leading New Cinema film maker, Shyam Benegal, Singapore’s independent short film producer, Lillian Wang and television and broadcast man turned airline chief, AirAsia X’s CEO, Azran Osman Rani.
“What we are looking for is Content, Creativity and The Cool Factor – the entertainment and engagement value of the video,” said Kevin Lee, Creative Director of Spoon, the web agency working with WIT on the competition, and one of the judges.
Video entries are limited to three minutes each and should capture the essence of “Why I love to travel”. Videos have to be submitted via the Web in Travel Facebook Fanpage.
There will be a shortlist round where the best videos will go on to the Finalist round. From this final cut, the judges will select and award the top three prize winners. Three people’s choice award will also be selected from the Facebook Fan Page based on public voting.
Winning videos will be showcased at the WIT Conference taking place in Singapore on Oct 19-20.
