Spanish tech company Hundredrooms has found a niche entering the metasearch space within the disparate alternative accommodation market in Europe. Establishing itself first within Spain in 2014, it has since branched out to Italy, Germany, France, Mexico and the U.K. It is soon to expand into the Latin American market.
“For a long time, there have been portals to compare flights, hotels and car rental deals but few providers to compare holiday homes and apartments,” it said in a recent media release.
It is already partnering big international brands including Airbnb, TripAdvisor, Booking.com and HomeAway.
Hundredrooms recently made the news when it secured a new round of funding, putting an additional 4 million euros in its bank. This round was led by Seaya Ventures, with participation from Mediaset and previous investors, according to Skift.
“The unique technology of Hundredrooms, combined with its comprehensive data base, analyses over 100 market leading websites to find and compare deals on accommodation at the best price for the user,” it said.
It is banking on the rising demand from travellers for alternative accommodation options.
“Figures spoke of an increase in demand for holiday homes and apartments rather than hotels for multiple reasons, including price affordability and a new low cost way of travelling,” said Jose Luis, founder of Hundredrooms.
Hundredrooms claims to search over 100 partner websites that host over seven million rentals, comparing the prices and allowing the user access to over 20 million photos, detailed information on the characteristics of each property, such as the availability of Wi-Fi or whether it is pet friendly.
“Our metasearch engine has two great advantages: the first is that a single search provides access to a vast inventory of offerings without having to consult site to site, while the second advantage is the ability to make a reservation at best possible price on the market,” said Luis.
The startup was founded in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, the city chosen as the company’s headquarters due to its “interesting tourism ecosystem”, and a large number of visitors each summer. The Mallorcan-based startup has 60 employees of which make up 40 engineers and product managers – and it is still looking for talent.
