TRAVEL management platform CWT has rolled out point-of-sale carbon footprint indicators as part of its $100 million investment in the myCWT travel management platform and its ongoing sustainable offerings.
According to the company, the indicators provide travellers with insights into the potential environmental impact of a trip, allowing them to make more sustainable choices at the point of booking.
Erik Magnuson , CWT’s VP product management, travel content & connectivity, said a survey carried out among its global customers at the end of last year showed 87% expressed they would like information provided to their employees at point-of-booking to help reinforce responsible travel choices.
He added the carbon footprint calculator would help customers and their travellers “understand their corporate and personal travel footprints and reduce their impact on the environment.”
CWT uses carbon data analytics from carbon intelligence platform, Thrust Carbon to provide the CO2 emission calculations on both mobile and web.
Thrust Carbon was the winner of the Grand Prize and People’s Choice award at WiT Startup Pitch held in conjunction with WiT Experience Singapore 2021, the first travel conference in Asia Pacific to return to a full in-person and hybrid format.
“If the traveller cannot see their emissions at point-of-sale then it simply will not be a factor in their decision making” said Mark Corbett, founder and director of Thrust Carbon.
“We are rapidly moving to a world where emissions data will be valued side by side with financial data. Together with our partners at CWT, we have made a giant leap towards delivering this for business travellers around the world.”
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has also launched a “first industry-developed” per-passenger CO2 calculation methodology that quantifies CO2 emissions per passenger for a specific flight.
