QATAR Airways has stepped into the metaverse with the launch of Qverse, a virtual reality (VR) experience for visitors to the airline’s website.
It features the world’s first known ‘MetaHuman’ cabin crew, Sama, to guide website visitors on the virtual tour.
Sama’s name originates from Arabic and translates to ‘sky’. She is a high fidelity digital human brought to life using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, real-time 3D creation tool that’s used by leading game makers, Hollywood production and special effects studios.
Users of Qverse have Sama as their guide. She takes them on the virtual tour and navigate the Premium Check-in area at Hamad International Airport (HIA) and the cabin interior of the airline’s aircraft.
On board, Sama talks to users of the software about the amenities, unique features, seat selections of Qatar Airways’ different classes of travel – from business to economy.

Sama guides users of Qverse to explore the cabins including Business Class – Qsuite, and the Economy Class cabin.
Qatar Airways group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: ““Our status as the first airline to introduce a MetaHuman cabin crew is testament to our unwavering desire to innovate and delight our customers. We are constantly looking forward to adopting and introducing novel technologies that enhance our passengers’ complete journey.”
Neutral Digital is Qatar Airways’ development partner for the Qverse. Its managing director, Iain Brown, said: “The QVerse demonstrates the value of immersive 3D technology in creating the next generation of customer engagement and marketing experiences.”
