The Chief People and Partnerships Officer on what he looks for when hiring, why indie hotels matter, and the mistakes smaller brands make when trying to scale.

Everyone’s talking about AI, and the hiring chatter is loudest of all. So, has it changed who AirAsia MOVE actually hires? You’d expect the answer to be a long list of new technical skills. Lim Ben-Jie, MOVE’s Chief People and Partnerships Officer, says it’s much simpler than that.

Then there’s the big-versus-small question. MOVE is built on scale and volume, so where do independent hotels and tour operators fit in? What do they need to bring to the table to get noticed on a platform this size? And what’s the one thing Ben-Jie says growing travel businesses keep getting wrong? He also shares how he’s been using AI to plan his own trips, including what he puts into his personal checklist to take the stress out of travelling, especially with a big group in tow.

We also ask Ben-Jie the question that’s got the whole industry talking; will AI agents make online travel agencies obsolete? Ben-Jie’s take is one that plenty of people would push back on.
