Sandra is a free-flower so there was no point in really organizing a structured birthday party.  Although initially we were going to go to Yogyakarta to visit the Borobudur temples, Mount Merapi decided to blow his top off and cast ash over the entire area and thus we deemed it safer if we changed plans.  So last minute we did.

It had to be something new, something that none of us had done before.  Something appropriately exciting for the milestone.  And we found it in the small island of Nusa Lembongan just off the tip of Bali.

Initially I was going to go for 3 days, then 4 … ended up with 6 days.  And instead of starting on Nusa Lembongan we started the trip in Lombok.  I told you … free-flow 🙂

As the celebrations proceeded we realized that we were actually dedicating 6 full days to celebrating Sandra’s life … each day symbolizing one of Sandra’s crazy decades.  And not just that, but we decided to have 6 cakes as well!  The decades gone had been very eventful so there was lots to celebrate.

Yes, we were reminded by Sandra of the thousands of calories that that represented, but hey, she’s going to need them to get to 100 🙂I was teasing Sandra that her dresses were getting shorter and shorter with every year gone by, and there she said it, you know what … the sexy sixties are back!  And why not.  We always toast to health, family, friends, prosperity … but why not to sexy?

At 60, family and friends are provided for, health can be augmented/sustained by all sorts of supplements … but sexy … that’s pure fresh attitude.  And it takes more than just a lift of the hem line to achieve that.  It takes a zest for life, a tremendously generous heart, confidence in all your insecurities, supportive and loving husband and kids and grand-kids, a big smile and the capability of heading to the bathroom in a restaurant and then stopping at every table to chat with the patrons for everyone has an interesting story to tell … while suddenly remembering, gosh, I have to peeeeeee!

And sandra’s definitely rocking all of those beautiful qualities!  You’re a star Sandra.  Love you!
