New Sage Hotel in Perth heralds “move away from commoditisation”
16/06/2016 by Danielle Yong

A new Sage Hotel in West Perth was officially unveiled in Singapore this Tuesday by its parent company, SilverNeedle, a Singapore-based hotel group.

The A$35 million hotel was developed in partnership with a local property developer, the Australian Development Capital (ADC), and is the first Sage hotel brand in the heart of West Perth.

The hotel’s centrepiece is a heritage-listed black and white home built in 1902, which now houses Julio’s, a favourite Italian restaurant that emphasises the use of locally sourced ingredients. The façade has been kept and the original property restored while a new block has been added to the back of the building.

Julio’s has been an institution in this part of town and the hotel respects that tradition. Situated on Hay Street, the hotel comprises 101 guest rooms and multiple meeting spaces.

At a media event, SilverNeedle’s president Bill Black said the new development signals the brand’s departure from the “commoditisation of the global industry”.

“[Chairman and CEO] Anand and I agreed the industry had changed; being a traditional hotelier I saw that we had to change to [keep pace] with the revolution in the industry. Today’s hotels need to be inclusive and to welcome the community.”

Sage is built around three pillars – celebrating local, connectivity and people delivering local, personalised experiences.

Maintaining connections both online and offline, said Black, is a key guiding principle.

Guests enjoy complimentary wifi throughout the property as well as pocket hotspot wifi while wandering the city. Foreign travellers can also access insider tips supplied by locals using the Sage mobile app.

Commenting on the collaboration with ADC, Anand Nadathur said, “Sage was the ideal brand to enter Perth – as our largest growing brand, we undertook a partnership with local developers who held our core values of technology, innovation and design.”

“We look forward to a long-term Sage presence in Perth.’’

As part of the launch, Sage Hotel is offering a ‘Sagacation’ package priced at S$215 per night including welcome drinks, breakfast, a one-course meal at Julio’s, a hot spot device for wireless access on-the- go and welcome gift showcasing the best of Western Australia’s local purveyors.

This package is for two people on a minimum two-night stay and children under 12 stay for free.
