They won big because of their love of travel
08/11/2010 by Zubair Ashraf

I think our winners can honestly tell you that it’s not easy to put a video together.

And that is why we decided to run a video competition titled ‘Why I Love to Travel’ in conjunction with the Web In Travel conference that just finished. If you wanted to win some great travel prizes, we wanted to witness some effort.

In this age of social media, text is not enough.  Photos are better, but also not enough.  What we’re going to have to get used to is making quick and snappy videos, for literacy today is all about moving images and multi-media.

I’ve created many videos, of course nothing overly elaborate.  However, even for the simplest video, which combines some moving images, flashing photos and music in the background can easily take-up several hours.  Besides getting the videos, photos and music together, you have to edit the content, convert it to a .mov file (or the likes) and then upload it.  It all takes time and effort.

Yet this is a vital skill for today’s tech-savvy generation, who are able to quickly compose a video straight from their iPhone.  I’m still trying to get a grip on that.

Thus, all the more praise for all our winners in this year’s ‘Why I Love to Travel’ competition.  For I know how much work they put into creating these little gems.
