There is more forecast on the future of travel, this time from Sabre on the role technologies will play in shaping the travel landscape in the years ahead.

The rather detailed 2017 Radar Report by Sabre Labs looks at nine tech trends impacting travel by studying the technologies and the impact they have on the travel industry.

The trends identified as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, autonomous delivery, blockchain, neural interfaces, quantum computing, space tourism, trusted presence and virtual reality gets physical.

Here is a quick look at five of these trends:

• Autonomous delivery – look at how autonomous delivery of goods by land, air and sea is the next step in an always and everywhere on demand economy

 • Blockchain – this has become a magic word and hailed as the new ‘Internet of Trust’ in the past two years, able to open
doors and investor wallets, panic industry juggernauts and guarantee headlines. Set to transform industries, governments, commerce and culture.

• Neural interfaces – merging mind and machine comes with two different challenges: extracting information out and transferring new information in. Neural interfaces attempt to address one or both challenges, and can do so in either an invasive or non-invasive way.

• Space tourism – competition in flying to the stars is upping the ante for extreme destinations all the way to Mars, but closer to home space race innovation is trickling down to change life on earth in some amazing ways.

 • Virtual reality — VR is getting physical in incorporating tech travel environments, and what it means for travel in the real world. (Download the full report for a deeper look at the 9 trends here)

Mark McSpadden, vice president of emerging products and technologies for Sabre Corporation, said technologies like artificial intelligence, neural interfaces and quantum computing each have the potential to produce change as dramatic as the growth of the Internet.”

“The next generation will see a radical transformation of how we live, work and play. We see tremendous opportunities for businesses to start experimenting with and implementing technologies like blockchain, augmented reality and trusted presence to help shape a more seamless, safe and personalised future for travel.”
